The GPPSS Middle School Tennis Club is back for its third season under the guidance of Coach Ken Prather, a former college-level tennis player and GP South HS Boys Team coach. We have team matches against other middle school teams and we have an internal Season-End Tournament/Party/Awards Saturday, May 30 9am-2pm at Elworthy and Grosse Pointe North. Students are responsible for their own transportation to practices and matches.
All practices and events will be in TeamSnap. Please check TeamSnap for the latest schedule. It will update regularly.
No prior experience required to join the club. We have all levels but this is an introduction to tennis and geared towards beginners as much as other levels. Please bring a tennis racquet, water and dress warmly. The more they can play before the season starts the more comfortable they will be starting but it is not required at all.
An informational meeting will be held at Brownell Middle School on Thursday, March 12 at 3:30 PM in the cafeteria. All participants must have an up-to-date physical and a completed GPPSS Gold Card medical form submitted to Coach Prather prior to the first practice unless they have already done so for another sport this academic year. If your forms are already submitted, please notify Coach Prather.
Take advantage of all the tennis available. Practices are available five days a week. Please fill out this questionnaire stating which practice days are best. And if you can volunteer to help a run a practice court, oversee a practice or team match. We need a lot of parental involvement to make this work.
Tennis is available now before the season starts. If your player wants a 30-minute assessment, lesson or get involved with our commmunity now there's more information on our pricing page or contact Coach Prather 313.570.7659 kprather@pratherinv.com
We run UTR tournaments where players get to play real singles and doubles tournament matches. You can sign up for our current UTR tournament here.
You are stepping into a community of like-minded families who believe in commitment and know how sports can transform the whole person to provide benefits for life.

Make tennis fun while making friends. Forge an identity as a tennis person and oh by the way, get really good so they excel on the middle school team, on the high school team someday and in tournaments playing against the area's best.
By the time they are in high school they are seasoned experienced player and excel in high school. Making varsity as a freshman, competing for a state title, making all-State are all within range for the committed player/family. Generation Five is working now to reach what Generation 1-4 have already done.
At this stage tennis has opened up a window of opportunities the player would not have had otherwise in friendships, opportunities, experiences, dealing with adversity, achievement making them ready to handle anything in life. College tennis is just one and for the most committed player/family going pro is another one. We want future generations to take it further than any prior generation.
